Crafting is wonderful year round, but there is just something extra magical about Christmas crafting!  We just moved into a new home and of course I have to spruce it up for the holidays.  My first task....a front door wreath.

For this wreath gather the follow items:

- My Retro Merry Christmas SVG (50% off at the time of posting!)

- Plaid fabric - I used flannel from Joanns

- Burlap Bow or Ribbon to create your own bow - I used ribbon from Joanns 

- White Heat Transfer Vinyl - Siser is my favorite 

- Embroidery Hoop - I used 23" but you can use any size

- Greenery - I used a Christmas garland and metallic red balls in the floral section at Michaels

- Twine for hanging

- And of course a glue gun and lots of glue gun sticks

You will also need your Cricut, Silhouette, or other vinyl cutting machine.

Let's get Started!

Cut your flannel around the embroidery hoop.  It doesn't need to be perfect.  Leave enough overlap to give you some space to work.  You will cut off the excess later.

Then measure inside the hoop and decide what size to cut your heat transfer vinyl.  Upload your SVG through your design program (for me it's Silhouette Studio for my BRAND NEW! Cameo 4).  I cut my design at 11.5" high to fill up most of my wreath.

Make sure your heat transfer vinyl will fit where you want it and then press.

After assembling the flannel with your pressed design inside your embroidery hoop, trim off the excess.  (Ignore that this hoop is much smaller....I also made ornaments the same way!)  I LOVE these super sharp fabric scissors to trim super close.  

Place a small line of hot glue around the edge of your fabric and hoop.  This will prevent your fabric from fraying and will help keep it from shifting in your hoop.

Now is the really fun part!  Add whatever YOU want!  

I tore apart my greenery garland and hot glued pieces to the top of the hoop.  I had pine cones in the greenery which were just perfect, and I added some sprigs of festive red balls.  Then I glued my burlap bow on top.  On the very back, I added a small hanging loop by folding a piece of twine and securing with hot glue.

And here it is finished!  So perfect for my front door.

I may have gotten carried away because next thing I knew I had 4" embroidery hoops and started working on matching ornaments.  These are made the exact same way and will be perfect for my Christmas Tree.
