Let's Make a Personalized Graduation Cap Box!
Gather your supplies
- Cricut Air Explore or Cricut Maker
- Cricut Cutting Mat - Light Blue for Cardstock
- 12x12" Cardstock Paper - I used Gold and Black - choose your school or favorite colors!
- Scoring Wheel or Scoring Stylus - These will help make your folds so much easier.
- Glue Pen or Glue Dots
- File from Wispy Willow Designs
Set up the File:
Upload the Graduation Cap Box SVG File to Cricut Design Space.
Ungroup all layers - then Highlight and delete any years that you will not be using. Personally, I only left 2025 on my screen.
Next we need to set all score lines to score.
To do this: Select the two straight lines on the right side of the panel. Then click Operation at the top of the panel and set to Score.
Next we need to Attach the two score lines to the box pieces. This way when we go to cut the score lines they will placed properly on top of the cardstock cut out.
On the right side of the panel - Select both the gold or black layer and the corresponding dashed score line. While highlighted click Attach down at the bottom.
If you want to add a personalized name - this is the time. Add a text box and type the name. Pick your favorite font.
Resize
To resize highlight ALL of the pieces of the box and adjust the size at the same time. I chose to make the longest black piece just under 11.5" so it will fit on a 12x12 piece of paper.
Now click Make - The big green button on the top right corner.
Your cut screen should look like this.
The score lines should be on top of the cardstock cut out.
You are ready to cut!
Cutting:
Follow the Cricut prompts.
First you will use the scoring wheel or stylus.
Then you will cut the cardstock. I used Heavy Cardstock setting.
Remove from Mat:
Flip your mat over and peel the mat off your paper - instead of your paper off the mat. This will reduce paper curl.
You should have these pieces.
Assembly:
Fold all of the Graduation Cap Box score lines.
Assembly:
Add glue or glue dots around the outside circle. Take the long strip and place each tab along the edge of the circle. Press down to secure.
Then glue the end of the strip and tuck inside of the lid. I use a small clip to secure while drying.
Assembly:
Glue the tassle in place on the graduation cap top. Add the small black circle on top of the center of the tassle. Fold the tassel just over the edge of the box so it hangs down.
If you want to personalize your box - add the date and name.
Assembly:
Flip the graduation cap top over. Apply glue to the center. Adhere the box lid to the center of the cap.
Assembly complete!
Let the box finish drying before placing together.
